Born in London, England, Kate studied Art and Design at Kingston University, and then spent many of her early years working as a sculptor and specials make-up effects artist in the film and television industry in the UK. At 26, she produced a Public Monument in the Chilean Patagonia as the resident expedition artist for Raleigh International. Her visit to South America expanded and she worked intensively on dozens of projects that included prosthetic make-up, animatronic and foam latex masks and puppets for commercials, television shows and film. By 1996, once back in London, Kate continued to work in the film industry on blockbuster films such as Harry Potter, Star Wars and Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow. Ten years later, Murray immigrated to Canada with her family, where she became involved in portrait sculpting for Alvarez Wax models for several wax museums, as well as private commissions. She currently lives and works in North Vancouver BC, her latest most notable work: being commissioned to produce a 150% scale bust for the Memorial of Nobel Prize for Literature winner Gabriel Garcia Marquez. This follows two previous private commissions of the author, one piece also of a portrait of Mercedes Barcha Pardo. This piece resides in their private home. A second edition is currently exhibited at the Harry Ransom Center, The University of Texas at Austin, alongside the archived works of Garcia Marquez. Kate is also fluent in Spanish. |
